The Wire is not a purely serious endeavor. It is as much of an excercise in the dispensation of dry and tongue in cheek humor as it is an outlet for occasionally running but more often walking commentary. Its contents can therefore not be used to accurately infer opinions or beliefs of its author, as much as soundbytes taken out of context can be understood to mean the exact opposite of the speaker's intent.
