Although it seems that the US government now doesn’t want to use its Total Information Awareness technology against its citizens, exceptions to this will be granted with congressional approval. Seeing as congress these days is about as willing to object to the administration’s proposals as a slightly altered lemming, this isn’t much more than a clever publicity stunt intended to giver the illusion that our representatives in DC still care.
