Another connection between Iraq and Israel
Apparently the war on Iraq will not only benefit Israel in terms of oil but also politically. Ahmed Chalabi, the man the DOD has cued as the next president for Iraq, has a very favorable opinion of Israel.
Oil not a priority? Right…
Over the past few days, more signs have emerged that confirm that the occupation of Iraq is about oil: There are now reports of how the US forces secured oil installations and the ministry of oil first while neglecting others. And they still expect us to believe that the war was ever so much not [...]
More uncertainty over where the US government’s next invasion will take place
By denying that he had another conflict planned, pResident Bush last week cast more uncertainty over the future of the plans set out by the Project for a New American Century think tank which esentially demanded the action the US administration carried out in Iraq. Those statements however probably are merely a sign that the [...]
US government asked to explain ‘no fly’ list
By means of a lawsuit, the ACLU recently asked the US government to explain the reasons behind the ways in which they have been using a ‘no fly list’ to keep not only people with terrorist connections but also peace activists from flying.
US government at war for Israel and oil
According to a new Guardian article, the two theories of the US government occupying Iraq for Israel’s sake and trying to rebuild an oil pipeline may well be connected. Apparently in doing so the US government would benefit in several ways, for example by having Syria cut out of the equation. (through DailyKOS)
Help me find the origin of a song
As readers of my personal blog, GeezerBlog, may know I recently finally purchased the last album of the early 90s heavy metal band Satrox (CH), Energy. After listening to said albums a few times, one particular song, “Tomorrow” stuck out. I can’t get rid of the impression that I’ve heard it in the 11 years [...]
Abscence of Republican guard due to agreement with US government
I’m sure many recall the question of where on earth the Republican Guard was when the US forces entered Baghdad and took control without any major problems. As it turns out this may have been an outcome based on an agreement between the US government and their alleged enemy in an effort to grant their [...]
One more road leading to Syria
Congress this week joined the US administration in threatening Syria over its alleged alliances with terrorist groups and development of weapons of mass destruction. Even though most politicians have shied away from admitting to envisioning an occupation of Syria, it has become clear from their actions that Syria could well be the next candidate for [...]
How sex workers cut into research funding
Due to the Bush administration’s religiously motivated crusade against advancements in biomedical research, even AIDS researchers have now been encouraged to censor their applications for grants as certain “sensitive words” may lessen their chances of obtaining funding.
Corporations secretly fined for doing business with “the enemy”
Talkleft made a good point recently in looking at the way in which corporations are once again favored by the government, this time when it comes to making business deals with “the enemy”. Whenever individuals could have possibly aided an enemy somehow they are paraded around the media circus like pink apes, but when large [...]
Lower the voting age?!
There have apparently been efforts to lower the voting age to 16. While such efforts may appear noble in terms of giving youths a voice, I believe they are premature if not misguided. Maybe in 50 years when every voter is smart enough to vote and the majority of all lemmings have gotten a political [...]
Colonialization? No…
It is becoming increasingly difficult to see the US government’s occupation of Iraq as something other than colonialization. Not only have they made moves to privatize the Iraqi economy but they have also flooded the Iraqi economy with dollars in order to allegedly “se standards”.
US government refuses DU cleanup
According to this BBC article, the US government has once again no intention of removing the contamination that their use of depleted uranium enriched weapons has caused in Iraq. They are once again hiding behind the lies that DU has no negative effects.
“Evil” countries are not the only ones to harbor terrorists
Last week, the US administration was celebrating the capture of small time terrorist Abbas in Iraq by immediately recalling their fake proof of connections between Hussein and Bin Laden. What went unmentioned however is that Bush senior effectively approved the harboring of a convicted terrorist in Florida.
US government going to war for Israel
Although the US governments warnings to Syria could well just be the next step in their permanent war, some have suggested that those warnings and the possible conflict with Syria are merely actions that the US government is executing for the benefit of the Israeli government.
Further evidence that Iraq occupation is about oil
Despite the fact that US oil companies may only be importing a small amount of oil from Iraq, it has emerged that the Iraq war too, just like in the case of Afghanistan, may be about plans for a pipeline that the former government rejected. (from xnerg)
Iraqi civil war?
It has been no secret that the major Iraqi cities have devolved into chaos as of late. Steve Gilliard over at DailyKOS reckons that these developments could go as far as leading to a civil war in Iraq due to its diverse population.
Nonexistant WMDs as a precedent to a similar democracy
In the recent weeks there have been many reports of discoveries in Iraq of materials falsely analyzed to be weapons of mass destructions, such as this one. Based on those it is increasingly looking like the UN and indeed perhaps even the former Iraqi government were right in declaring that there were no unknown caches [...]
House grants more benefits to energy corporations
Recent moves of the US government to give tax breaks to fossil fuel companies should lay to rest the doubts that the US government is in bed with large corporations once and for all. Not only have their executives already recieved great benefits from other tax cuts but now their companies, exactly the ones who [...]
US defiance of UN continues
As the plans for the reconstruction of Iraq are drawn up the US government is once again disrespecting the UN’s authority by insisting that only the coalition be in charge of the rebuilding process, despite the fact that funding the reconstruction would be a lot easier if they let the UN take care of the [...]
US propganda at its “best”
Remember how the toppling of the Saddam statue in Baghdad was allegedly a glorious triumph with tons of people celebrating? Well, the NYC indymedia center has released a wide scale shot of the statue dismounting scene which reveals that all that surrounded that scene was a few tanks and a small group of people. Yes, [...]
Open-ended P.A.T.R.I.O.T.?
According to some GOP enators, four years of a semi pre police state situation isn’t enough. They are planning on introducing legislation that would repeal the sunshine laws that defined expiration limits for the new governmental spying abilities as defined in the 2001 “patriot” act. Pair this with the attempts of Rep. Serrano from the [...]
Edwin Starr dead at 61
Just over a week ago, singer Edwin Starr, best known for his “War! What is it good for?” tune suffered a fatal heart attack at his home. Let’s hope the invasion of Iraq wasn’t the cause.
Questionable coalition members
When pResident Bush first described his coalition as being large, I was very sceptical. When its size was set at 45 nations, I grew even more sceptical. As it turns out, the allegedly large coalition really is nothing much more than the nations who have committed troops, some who strongly agree and the rest is [...]
Saddam’s status is irrelevant
Now that the coalition forces have started their occupation of Baghdad, the question of whether Saddam is dead or alive has faded into the background. Some say that this has happened as the US government doesn’t really care. I would not be surprised if this was true as they have not cared about Bin Laden [...]
Dissent may be criminalized
If a set of laws proposed by a Republican senator from Oregon pass, dissenting individuals could be classfied as terrorists, and we all know how the US government has abused such individuals. When conservative fanatics rants on about how unAmerican dissenters supposedly are it’s one thing, but when government officials try to violate the constitution [...]
Bush, nature’s enemy
It should come as no suprise that pResident Bush, a businessman with many ties to corporations that are too close for comfort, would have no interest in saving the environment. When this disinterest happens at the expense of health risks for US citizens, concern is warranted.
Bush & Affirmative action
It is well known that pResident Bush opposes affirmative action, and to a large part he may not be so wrong on the issue. It becomes clear however that he is once again being hypocritical when one considers that it was affirmative action that helped him get into Yale.
Half-truths at all costs
It appears that the US forces will shy away from nothing to ensure that independent reporting is restricted as much as possible. Four independent journalists were detained by the US army after coming to close to one of their units. Despite the fact that this story was covered by Democracy Now on 4/1, it seems [...]
Embedded reporting, the enemy of truth
Reporters embedded with the coalition forces in Iraq have essentially become the new superstars of news entertainment as their position is the most effective way for the US government to ensure that its propaganda remains “pure”. What many fail to realize however is how subjective those reporters become when their lives depend on the forces. [...]
9/11 investigation underway
A little under two weeks ago, an investigation into the events of 9/11 finally began as a panel created by congress held hearings. Seeing as the committee is not as independent as it ideally should be it’s doubtful that they will find the real culprits, but it definitely can’t hurt to investigate the failures that [...]
Another road leading to 1984
There is a lot more to the pro-war rallies organized by Clear Channel Communications radio stations. As it turns out, the comany and above all its executives, some of whom have ties to the US administration, are very much interested in the upcoming FCC deliberations of media monopolies. So what better way to pre-emptively scratch [...]
Need safety? Here, let me detain you.
Not only has the US government been unlawfully detaining and mistreating foreigners whom they might at some point suspect of having some loose connection with some organization deemed by them to have connections with known terrorist groups, but they have also been detaining refugees on a very large scale. As the NYT article linked to [...]
Possible further concentration of media ownership
According to this article the FCC will consider this upcoming summer whether or not to permit further mergers in the media industry in the form of allowing broader ownership of various media outlets. I can just see it now: Instead of a few news channels we’ll only have Bush TV to get “news” from.
More on the US government’s violations of the Geneva Convention
According to a Guardian article, abuse of “prisoners of war” doesn’t just happen in Guantanamo bay. Two prisoners of the US forces at the Bagram air base died last year from “blunt force injuries”.
