Got oil? Welcome to the coalition!
Over the past few weeks many pro-war writers have insisted that the invasion of Iraq has absolutely nothing to do with oil as Iraq is apparently only responsible for a small amount of oil exported from the middle east. Even if that was so, it would still not explain Uzbekistan’s case. Even though they have [...]
War on terror good for drug addicts
Not only have things in general not been as rosy in the “liberated” Afghanistan, but opium production has also returned in full scale. While the Taliban managed to keep a lid on it, all the US friendly president can do is offer a very meager $500 for every acre destroyed.
Other chemical weapons used by US forces
Not only have the coalition forces in Iraq been using DU enhanced weapons, but also Napalm. This too is a case where the US government has refused to submit to calls for the banning of such weapons.
Congress again injects religion into politics
Last week, the US congress once again ignored the separation of church and state when they passed a bill calling for a day of prayer and fasting. I wouldn’t mind if this had been a recommendation made by a few senators, but an endorsement of Christianity like this goes too far. If they wish to [...]
Lifting the fog of war
It has become obvious that many media outlets have been publishing false information on the invasion of Iraq in their efforts to be up to date. The Guardian maintains a page providing a good overview of those false claims.
Support the troops, bring them home and restore their benefits
By throwing their support behind the silly conservative “support the troops movement” the lemmings and the US administration have neglected one major aspect of support: healthcare. The troops may appreciate the moral support now, but they sure will hate to have to wait for months before they can see a doctor once they’re back home.
On the (il)legality of the war
American layer media has published a set of articles on the (il)legality of the invasion of Iraq, examining amongst other things how this war violates the UN charter and international law. (from TalkLeft)
More on the US government’s violations of the Geneva convention
Ever since the US government accused Iraqi forces of violating the Geneva convention, the US government’s own violations of the convention have resurfaced. The Guardian has a good summary of their violations to date, especially in relation to the conflict in Afghanistan.
Bush tax cuts slashed
Last week, the US senate showed more signs of recovery as they slashed Bush’s tax cut proposal down by more than 50%. There was even talk of investing some of it towards reducing the national deficit. If such moves were a more frequent occurrence, the senators could regain some of their credibility.
No clear evidence of WMDs in Iraq
While early finds by the troops did not point to efforts of the Iraqi government to develop WMDs, more recent discoveries could prove otherwise. All in all all finds have been evidence of past efforts so far, which would suggest that the Iraqi government may have been more honest with the UN than the US [...]
No open arms for coalition forces
When coalition forces entered Iraq they expected to be greeted as liberators. As it turns out, many Iraqi citizens are smarter than that and see the invasion as what it really is and oppose the occupation as their dislike of Hussein does not equal a like of coalition forces.
More on Halliburton’s war profits
It looks as though Halliburton won’t play such a diminished role in the rebuilding of Iraq after all. This article reckons that seeing as rebuilding Iraq’s oilfileds will not be an easy job, Halliburton may stand to profit from it for quite some time. Update: Apparently Halliburton is no longer the main contender but could [...]
Service announcement
Due to time constraints I haven’t been able to post as much as I usually do, so bear with me while I catch up on the issues that have come up but have gone unmentioned here for the past few weeks.
Sen. Kerry blasts Bush & Ashcroft
I am very happy to see that some of our representatives in DC still have a spine and still have some sense of true patriotism. The newest example of this is Senator John Kerry, who at a speech last Wednesday laid out some of the truths about the current administration. Talkleft has an entry featuring [...]
