In a speech at the Take Back America conference, Bill Moyers talked about the history of the progressive movement. A part of that speech was a great paralell between the times of the industrial revolution and today.
When the People’s Party was founded in 1892 they included the following in their platform:
“We meet in the midst of a nation brought to the verge of moral, political and material ruin….Corruption dominates the ballot box, the [state] legislatures and the Congress and touches even the bench…..The newspapers are largely subsidized or muzzled, public opinion silenced….The fruits of the toil of millions are boldly stolen to build up colossal fortunes for a few.”
Upon closer examination of that passage I found that we seem to once again be at that same stage and that there hopefully will once again be a group of people present to change this country for the better.
