Howard Dean for President in 2004

As the primaries season for the 2004 elections is approaching it is time for me to endorse a candidate for the primaries.

After reading through some of the materials provided by moveon.org, I have decided that I would like to see Governor Howard Dean of Vermont be endorsed by the Democratic Party and consequently kick Bush out of the White House and thereby take back what rightfully belongs to an elected candidate that cares about his people.

I know it must seem strange to see an often radical progressive like me endorse a Democrat, but the stakes are so high in 2004 that I see no better man than Howard Dean right now to restore what George Bush has destroyed in his war against the American People and the world since he took office. Not only is he one of the more progressive minded Democrats, but he is also one of the most electable amongst them. As nice as it would be to see an African American female President, I just believe that corporate America and too many people are not ready for that yet. Maybe in 2012 or at the very earliest in 2008 that time will have come, but not yet. Others like Senator Kucinich fare far better on the stands they take on many issues, but they come off way to extreme, mostly too liberal, to stand a chance of being elected. Gov. Dean has the right idea by, for example, not sucking up to the NRA but also not shooting them down by stating that he believes that gun control should be decided on at a state level.

As much as I would like to see true democracy take hold and build a republic envisioned by the likes of Ralph Nader, I believe we must take a break from that work (in as far as it relates to elections) and do our best to get a true Democrat into the White House next year. Once that has been accomplished, we will once again have enough breathing space and time to continue building a nation by the people and for the people.

  • Agreed. See you at one of the Meetups, I presume…

  • Amen to Dean. He can hopefully appeal to the moderates out there and actually get elected.

By the way, another issue with Kucinich is his stance on abortion. Kucinich is known as being a “radical liberal” when it comes to things like the war, but he was actually very strongly anti-abortion until his candidacy. Now he’s sort of ignoring the issue, because he realizes that he will alienate much of his liberal support if he declares himself to be anti-abortion. Still, it could be a significant problem for him.

  • Back on Kucinich yes while he has made the supposed switch to more pro-choice, he has made it no secret that he is still pro-life. He just looks to make Roe v. Wade a staple. He looks to eliminate abortions in other ways rather than making it illegal as so many would have their way…On Dean, while he seems to be a good choice, he is all to aligned with the current administrations views for my vote. He does not believe in slashing the out of control military budget. So then I wonder how he plans to do other social things? Dean is way to conservative for me. Kucinich the gnome for me!
