The giant wasteland that is American television

In a recent speech, John Willis, the BBC’s Director of Factual & Learning, spoke some of the most true words about American TV I have heard in a long time. In the short period he spent here he gained a very good insight into how abismal our TV stations’ situation really is. The following is one of his best conclusions:

The lesson from America is that, if news and public affairs are left purely to the market, it will most likely give the government what it wants.
