Next ‘Dr. Who’ to be a cartoon series

One of the most popular science fiction series, which at least in the UK often beats Star Trek in terms of popularity, Dr. Who, has been on hiatus for over ten years but is apparently coming back in November of this year. Unfortunately it is not the comeback many fans had hoped for, or at least only contains a third of what they’d hoped for. According to the BBC, Richard E. Grant, who has already played The Doctor once a the Children in Need special, will be providing his vocal services to the Doctor’s character in the upcoming cartoon version of Dr. Who.

As I am a fan myself I can only say that I am thoroughly disappointed that the BBC decided to take this cheap way out of the dilemma that pressure from many fans presented. Especially in an age when relatively low budget type of comedies are very popular in the UK, producing Dr. Who in a similar way should not be a problem. I would rather have them produce three new series at a low cost than spend the full budget on a hollywood style production. In essence this cartoon series will not satisfy many and certainly not solve the problem that Dr. Who was just left standing there in 1989 and never taken seriously again.
