Dr. Who Turns 40

It was today, 11/23, exactly 40 years ago, on November 23 1963, just one day after the assassination of President Kennedy, that Dr. Who, the popular British sci-fi series, premiered as a children’s programme with its first story “An Unearthly Child” on the BBC. From there on it ran for 26 consecutive years, beating Star Trek and many other popular series due to its ability to regenerate its main character every few years.
Although there have been no new episodes for 14 years, the BBC has agreed to revive the series in 2005 and will in the meantime be showing an animated story online and celebrating the 40th anniversary with special programming.
