It would seem that the US government doesn’t trust its own embassies anymore: Since monday January 5th, foreign visitors to the US who enter the country with a visa have been subjected to fingerprinting and photographing at the point of entry. While the DHS has naturally claimed that this has already helped them catch criminals, I cannot help but wonder what good getting more data on visa holders will do as aliens with visas already went through an approval procedure at the embassies in their native countries. If anyone should be registered more accurately it’s tourists from nations that have a visa-waiver agreement with the US. But that would get foreign countries really mad and not fool lemmings as easily…
