Supreme court affirms detainees’ rights

The US Supreme Court today ruled that people detained in the “war on terror” have the right to a trial. While they did not declare the practises of detention without charges or trial to be illegal, this does mark a clear step forward in the affirmation of the validity of the rights of people under the jurisdiction of the US government.
