Thanks Dan!

Last week, many conservatives breathed a sigh of relief when Dan Rather left his anchor position at CBS. Some have since had good things to say about the man himself, however.

Thomas Hazlett at the Weekly Standard credits Rather with aiding the abolishment of the fairness doctrine back in 1987. I agree with the author top the extent that I believe in “balanced” reporting only to a certain degree. If one side of the spectrum, for example, is putting out too much garbage, like the ultraliberals at UFPJ , for example, the news outlet should be free to severely shorten coverage of that side and expand coverage of the centrist or conservative view of the issue in order to protect its reputation. Fairness in media coverage has its place and time and the FNC could certainly use more of it, but enough is enough. A ban on a liberal version of Rupert Murdoch has yet to be enacted.
