2006 State of the Union address – Analysis

The President’s speech, which according to C-span clocked in at 51:07 and was interrupted 61 times by applause, was all in all very good.

The President did a fine job in explaining his policies to the unkowing, ignorant and forgetful and added some important new policy items.

I liked his focus on our anti-isolationist stance. Although any reasonable person knows that retreat is not an option, I am pleased that the President reiteerated this vital point. It was also about time for a remark like the one on constructive criticism versus defeatism. It’s time those democrats were told off.

I also hope the President’s expression of hope for a free Iran means he’ll move to solve the Iran problem soon.

His stance on immigration seems to have improved as well. I’m glad that he no longer supports amnesty for trespassers and is strongly in favor of securing our borders.

Other noteworthy proposals were increased use of IT in the health sector, medical liability reform, more spending on energy related R&D, greater energy independence and his US competitiveness initiative.

It was great to witness another seminal moment in President Bush’s career. He was in great form, and I applaud him for reaffirming our Christian values.

As the Democrats will not recieve the “honor” of an analysis written by me, I’ll remain with the observation that the Democrats acted in a very immature fashion by opposing an extension of the PATRIOT act and applauding their failure to reform social security. And they’re supposed to be the mature ones among liberals…
