President Bush’s speech last night was as good as it was predictable. The speech contained some great ideas on securing the border, but still also his very irritating insistance on granting amnesty to those criminals.
And then along comes Dick Morris with even worse ideas. I seriously hope President Bush won’t take Morris’ advice. The GOP should under no circumstances sell out to those criminals. Our policy should be that we won’t help those who won’t assimilate. They will always have the freedom to get out.
If President Bush really wants credibility on the immigration issue, he’ll hire Chris Simcox of the Minutemen and give him the authority to implement his ideas. Simcox truly knows far better in this case.

Although the provisions mentioned in the article would double legal immigration, they still amount to something as bad as the amnesty proposed by the President. Once the requirement for higher education and a high skill level are removed from legal immigration provisions, new arrivals definitely will start taking jobs away from American citizens.
