After learning of my representative’s lack of a spine, I decided to voice my displeasure and wrote her the following letter:
Dear Rep. Titus,
I am writing to express my sincere displeasure with your vote on roll call 70 earlier today, February 13, 2009.
Instead of carrying on the legacy established by your predecessor, John Porter, you chose to follow Sen. Reid instead of Sen. Ensign.
As I am sure you are aware, Senator Ensign has pointed out why H.R. 1 should not be passed in its current form, and I support his as well as House minority leader Boehner’s positions.
Not only is it likely that you did not read the bill you voted on (according to Rep. Boehner’s statements on the floor), but I am also disappointed that you did not seem to muster the courage to stand with Rep.s Turner, DeFazio and the other five Democrat opponents.
As has been pointed out repeatedly, H.R. is 90% pork and 10% stimulus. This district may have avoided the worst so far, but even here jobs were lost and companies have struggled. I was saddened to find out that this would not seem to sufficiently concern you.
I personally lost my job due to the recession, and would much like to see a far greater emphasis on fixing the economy as opposed to exacerbating the crisis with bills like H.R. 1.
Instead of frivolously spending our money on issues like the protection of mice in the San Francisco bay area, foreign aid and wasteful federal programs should be cut so that we can stave off disaster threatened by foreign nations calling in our debts.
This district may be well served by the prosperity created by gaming in the area. But if taxes rise, businesses may desert or not even move to this area anymore, and Henderson may end up not being such a shining example of American entrepreneurship anymore.
President Obama may be well on his way to becoming a one term President, but you needn’t join him on that journey.
