Ultraliberals and the troops

For the past few months I have seen phrases like “bring the troops home now!” from the extreme left and center left type of liberals. As usual, that’s all they have to say, a demand without an educated explanation of how to respond to the demand. Now, this would not be surprising if it only came from your average immature and uneducated college / high school / California type of liberal, but these kinds of comments are even uttered by politicians such as Senator Kennedy. While asking for an exit strategy may not be such a bad thing, those liberals are all too impatient and seem to forget that all good things take time and that especially withdrawing any troops now would hurt our image more than it would benefit it. The allegedly large number of foreigners with only elementary knowledge of US politics would probably only be satisfied if the US became as socialist as their countries, so seeing as that will not happen within the next 100 years, why bother trying to satisfy their lust for injustice through egalitarianism around the world?

Goodbye Johnny

Early today, 3 decade Tonight Show host and American legend Johnny Carson passed away at his home in California at the age of 79.

As good as Jay Leno may be, it will take years for someone as great as Johnny to come along again.

Iraq is no quagmire

According to a new article in the National Review by Richard Lowry, there are a good number of examples from the past few centuries of invading forces winning the battle against guerilla insurgencies, many of them quite similar to the one facing us in Iraq now.

Especially if we are to learn from the past it would therefore seem premature to call the Iraq situation a quagmire. On the same note, it would also be reckless and rash to pull out of Iraq now as ultraliberals are suggesting.

Anti-American sentiments rampant abroad

A new BBC World Service poll has found that anti-Americanism appears to be very popular outside the US. What’s even worse is that most of those polled are unable to distinguish between a country’s people and and its President: As the vast majority of them disapprove of President Bush’s policies, they are foolishly assuming that Americans must be just as bad.

If the results of this poll are indeed representative of the true magnitude of the America hating nitwit crowd abroad, then this essentially constitutes praise for the American media. If allegedly more objective foreign media can’t spread a more complete truth about our nation, then our media must be doing a pretty good job.

Happy Birthday Elvis!

Had he not passed away 28 years ago, Elvis Presley would have turned 70 today.

On a less positive note, his daughter has just proverbially urinated on his grave by selling 85% of her ownership of Elvis’ estate. Now Elvis may finally become the sell out many considered him to be in the 1970s.

Happy New Year!

Being fully aware of how long it’s been since my last post, I’d like to wish all my readers and visitors a happy new year. Another year under Bush, of 24 races towards a simple life, a wife and several oscars.

Enjoy yourselves and don’t drink more than you’d trust your uncle to stomach.

Not again! pt. 3

In light of this morning’s events, I have decided to finally launch my side project, gainsaying.com.

On the site I will explore the many contradictions that dot the American landscape, starting with the election. Four years of Bush have hurt the nation a great deal and four more will probably not help at all. At least Bush won the elction (mostly) fair and square this time, but the fact that so many people could be fooled into voting for fascism is something of an odd thing.

Not again! pt. 2

Now that the initial shock has past and pessimism sets in, I thought I’d list a few positive news items:

– Voter turn out was higher than at any point since 1968 (source: CNN).
– Mubarack Obama (D) won his race for a senate seat in Illinois.
– Brian Higgins (D) won the house seat in New York State’s 27th district.
– Almost half the nation voted against Bush.
– Nader did not spoil the election for Kerry.

Not again!

Well, it looks as though the Democrats have screwed up again. Another perfectly good chance to rule the world ruined. It seems quite like they were unable to match Geroege Bush’s strength as a candidate.

This is it then, four more years of Bush…

Daschle loses Senate seat

Senate minority leader Tom Daschle has officially lost his seat to challenger Rep. John Thune. Well done, one more Democrat who couldn’t grow a large enough spine.

Superman’s dead

It looks like we may be getting a triad here after all. CNN has just broken the news that actor Christopher Reeve has passed away after slipping into a coma.

I don’t wanna guess as to who will be next.

Rollup

Through a short trail of linked blogs I discovered rollup.org which lets you create your own rollup, a page composed of rss feeds of your choice.

The ZU rollup is here.

The main downside is of course that rollup.org places google ads on your page and that they don’t give you much control over the layout. I don’t mind that much however as for now my rollup serves more as a reference for when I finally get around to adding a feeds page to my website.

Out of the dark, into the light

Today, ZU has finally emerged from the dark ages of the Net and is now frameless. In addition to this, the backend (Moveable Type) has also been upgraded. As the pages beyond the main page are still somewhat behind the times and out of date they will too be updated, but at a later point in time.

Due to time constraints I haven’t been able to post as much as I usually do, so bear with me while I catch up on the issues that have come up but have gone unmentioned here for the past few weeks.
