Monty Python at the O2 – musings

So I just got back from the O2 where I saw and met the Pythons, which was nice.

Before I let my impressions marinade, here are a few fresh from the bush:

For a whipper snapper like myself, this production was a godsend. As I was born quite late in their career, I’d never thus far had the chance of seeing them live. Good thing I’m a Swiss wage earning whipper snapper, ’cause that ticket was expensive!

When they say you should never meet your idols, they’re kind of right. Just like with my musical favourites, Motörhead’s Lemmy, one thing to keep in mind is that the stars are senior citizens now, so you won’t get a carbon copy of the record anymore. That said though, Eric Idle organised one fine show for us.

Although they could have gone a bit lighter on the musical type interludes, it was a privilege to see the five remaining Pythons and Carol Cleveland in the flesh, doing it all one more time. To see those sketches live and alive was amazing. Younger actors may have more vigour, but it’s always best to see the writers and original performers.

The irony of the whole thing about age, by the way, was that the most seasoned performer is still the best performer. Although he’s the oldest of the five, John Cleese was in great voice and shape and I for one am very glad he wanted to be there.

Meeting them afterwards was surreal. I usually have lots to say to my idols, but somehow with these whom I’ve admired for a lot longer than some of my musical favourites, I had far less to say. But sod it, all five in one room and me and 100 others too, that’s a pretty good crowning moment to an evening.

To finish with an aside on legends, Motörhead is still amongst the best in the value for money department, by the way. If there was a next time Monty Python should ask VIP Nation to do the meet and greet.

The Stone Roses, Finsbury Park, review (Telegraph)

Ian Brown’s face had a few more lines than in his youth but his swagger can still make Liam Gallagher seem like a man crippled with self-doubt.

via The Stone Roses, Finsbury Park, review – Telegraph.

The concert was a great opportunity to rekindle memories of the historic Heaton Park gigs last year. The only truly new thing this year may have been the setlist, but with the Stone Roses, that is secondary, as just being there is an event every time.

Being that so much was similar to last year (does SJM always use the same onsite construction approach?), it’s hard to highlight much for me, but suffice to say that 2013 could be their year if new singles start coming out.

Britain braces for possible copycat attacks (My Way News)

Britain’s domestic spy agency of MI5 has long warned of the difficulties in predicting self-starter attacks, or attacks that are inspired – not necessarily organized – by larger groups.

via My Way News – Britain braces for possible copycat attacks.

Bollocks! When Labour opened the floodgates predicting became much easier. Unchecked immigration will lead to such clashes between cultures and races, “extremist” religions or not.

Besides, in this case they knew the lead attacker beforehand, no predicting necessary!

Occupy the London Stock Exchange? They’re not even occupying their own tents (Telegraph)

Occupy the London Stock Exchange? Theyre not even occupying their own tents – Telegraph Blogs.

No surprise there. Most of those hippies are communists in name only. They’re lazy useless critters who enjoy all the spoils of a capitalist society but would never give anything in return. It’s no wonder they call for communism. How else could they steal from honest working people to finance their filthy habits?

It’s time the Met moved in and cleared them away. That squat definitely classifies as a nuisance and eyesore now. Or make them work for the privilege of soiling the city. Rotating 12 hour shifts in various quarries ought to do.

If David Starkey is racist then so is everybody – Telegraph Blogs

To pillory a man for pointing out such a glaringly obvious cultural fact just because he’s white and Right-wing would have been quite wrong even before the riots. Post riots it is positively obscene.

via If David Starkey is racist then so is everybody – Telegraph Blogs.

And once again Delingpole gets it right. Like I said, if Starkey was a working class black man they’d be applauding very loudly.

Was David Starkey being racist on Newsnight last night? – Telegraph Blogs

Was David Starkey being racist on Newsnight last night? – Telegraph Blogs.

See, this is what I meant recently when I said you had to be black to criticize black people. Starkey was absolutely spot on, but since he’s white he automatically got accused of being racist. If a working class black man had said the same things he would have been awarded a prize and lauded as visionary. Who’s being racist now?!

Also, this whole notion that “police are racist” has to stop, especially in England! The riots’ magnitude is proof that they aren’t.

Listen ignoramuses, if there is evidence to suggest that a suspect is black, the police must look for him or her among black people and in a majority black area, a suspect will by default be black. This isn’t racism, it’s simple logic! If you’d bothered to get a proper education you’d know that.

So no, there were no legitimate grievances in the lead up to the riots. A memorial, ok, family are bound to ignore the bad sides of a relative that got them killed, but anything beyond that had no justification whatsoever. Mature people get involved, children throw a tantrum. Those who grow up work to better their lot, those who don’t mooch off taxpayers and riot.

Love Britain, give the Bobby a gun!

How did England’s cities become engulfed in a Lord of the Flies nightmare? Moral relativism is to blame, not gang culture – Telegraph Blogs

How did England’s cities become engulfed in a Lord of the Flies nightmare? Moral relativism is to blame, not gang culture – Telegraph Blogs.

While Mr. Young is of course right (Labour party pantywaists take note), he neglects to add that even with high moral standards across society, some people will never “get it.” Why else have there been so many pedophiles in the Catholic church?

By all means, teach everyone about proper behavior, but don’t expect all to internalize those truths. Keep your prisons big, because the rotten elements will not fade that quickly.

Black children think the police are racist. We must teach them about the 1980s – Telegraph Blogs

Black children think the police are racist. We must teach them about the 1980s – Telegraph Blogs.

The above column should put an end to the false allegations of racism. We should remember that many minority groups use such charges to excuse their immoral and uncivilized behavior.

And again, remember, if there is solid evidence to suggest that the perpetrators were black, the Met must by definition look for black people to arrest. That’s not racism, that’s policing with a rational mind.

Let’s hope that with the evidence being a bit more immediate than, as in the case of the TSA, the vast majority of terrorists being muslim youngsters, they will find the spine to go and lock up all rioters, no matter what color.

Forget rubber bullets, the public wants to use tear gas and tasers on the rioters – Telegraph Blogs

Forget rubber bullets, the public wants to use tear gas and tasers on the rioters – Telegraph Blogs.

As usual, those directly affected have a much better idea of how to handle a crisis than those far away in their government buildings.

Also, once again someone could use a clue from the Swiss. They bring out rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons on day 1. And they’re very successful. Ever seen wartime scenes from the outskirts of Zurich?

OK, Boris and Dave, here’s how to respond to a riot – Telegraph Blogs

OK, Boris and Dave, here’s how to respond to a riot – Telegraph Blogs.

What Mr. Young overlooked there, of course, is that Mayor Nutter can only talk tough because he’s a black man criticizing black criminals. Boris and Dave could not do this without ending their careers.

Sometimes even class enters the picture. As Bill Cosby could confirm, you also should be of the same class as your target in order to be taken seriously.

It’s time all public figures called a spade a spade. Statistics don’t lie. If the majority of criminals happen to be black, say so. If almost all instigators of a riot, as was the case in London, are black, say so. No one should ever be punished for being honest and making truthful statements.

Also, considering how much money the UK government has been pouring into those allegedly disadvantaged neighborhoods, it is clear that it isn’t a matter of the criminals being mistreated or neglected. It’s a matter of them being too lazy, naive and plain stupid to abide by the law. It seems they don’t want to work and thereby support themselves and instead steal from tax payers, neighbors and shop owners.

It’s high time to stop cuddling those primitives and realize that stealing is always wrong, no matter who does it and no matter from whom. If you can steal, you can work. Funny how “repressive regimes” seem to have caught on to this a lot quicker.

Cameron recalls Parliament as London riots spread (C4N)

“This is not about race, faith and class pure and simple,” said Professor Mike Hardy

via Cameron recalls Parliament as London riots spread – Channel 4 News.

Faith, maybe, but beyond that I’m not so sure. I very much doubt there were any rich business men among the rabble. This is a failure of no one but the criminals themselves and their utter lack of any notion of civilized behavior. It’s their animal like primal behavior that caused the loss and utter mayhem.

Mind you, if Boris and Cameron hadn’t pussyfooted around this long much of this could have been prevented, but that’s another story.

Much of this could also have been curtailed had the labor governments of the past not opened the floodgates to just any vermin and instead focussed on integrating new arrivals like they used to before 1968.

Recent events certainly are a post-humous vindication for the late MP Enoch Powell who predicted these sorts of events 43 years ago. I wonder if Mr. Hardy would like to personally apologize to the victims and tell them that those animals just wanted a better life.

If those muslims hate the west so much, what the hell are they doing in London?! The PM should improve everyone’s lives and deport those ingrates. If they love OBL so much, I’m sure we can find a way to dump them all beside him. Plenty of rocks and ropes for all those idiots.

TUITION FEES VOTE PROTEST: Charles and Camilla’s car attacked as thousands of students descend on Parliament | Mail Online.

Demonstrations are ok, but when spoiled brats go as far as those idiots in London, anything short of machine guns with live ammo should be fair game.

Such childish brutes should all be arrested and definitely barred from ever attending any university in the UK. Higher education is a privilege, not a right!

China Hits Out At Olympics Protests (Al Jazeera)

Al Jazeera English – News – China Hits Out At Olympics Protests

I guess they would be offended that the vast majority of nations on this planet do permit more kinds of speech than they do… Seriously, the IOC really screwed this one up. I know you can’t expect every country to live up to American standards, but China really is at the bottom of the barrel on this one.
